This page will help you learn more about how T-Mobile protects children’s data and how you can tell us which lines are being used by children.

What is children's data?

  • Any data that we know was collected from a child.
  • At T-Mobile, a child is a person under 16 years of age.
  • T-Mobile applies children’s data protections to certain products, such as Project 10 Million, and to any line designated as a Kids’ line.

How does T-Mobile protect children’s data?

  • We inform parents about the collection and use of children’s data. You can check that out in the T-Mobile Privacy Notice.
  • We are piloting the ability for parents to designate a kid’s line and obtain the parent’s consent to collect and use data from their child.
  • We require consent for each child and each service. Which means parents may have to provide multiple consents.
Example: Sarah has 2 daughters, Lily and Rose, each with their own phone line.  Sarah will need to provide a total of 2 consents: 1. Lily’s phone line, and 2. Rose’s phone line.
  • If a parent does not consent to the collection of data, T-Mobile may not be able to provide the service.
  • The main reason we collect children’s data is to provide the product or service that collected the data.
  • It's also important to know:
    • We do not use children’s data for marketing or advertising.
    • We do not sell children’s data.
    • We protect children’s data with security safeguards.
    • We provide parents the right to access and delete their children’s information.
  • Once a child turns 16, they will continue to receive the same services, but the extra limitations on marketing and data use that we automatically apply to their line as a kid’s line will go away. This means we may use their data for personalization or advertising. All customers can set their personal data settings in the T-Mobile Privacy Center

Manage a child's data

Manage your settings at the line level to let us know which lines are being used by children. The management of this setting must be done through the T-Mobile App or T-Mobile.com by the Primary Account Holder (PAH) or with Full access.

Currently this setting is available to Magenta Postpaid voice lines. Mobile Internet lines may be able to make this designation in the future.

To change or designate a line as a child line:

  1. Log in to your T-Mobile.com account or the T-Mobile app.
  2. Select Profile.
  3. Select Family Controls.
  4. Select Let’s get started.
  5. Go to the line on the account and select Edit. The line is set to either Adult or Kids’ line.
  6. Select Kid’s line, enter the child’s birth month and year  in this format: mm/yyyy. To change a saved date, change the line to an adult line, save the changes and then restart the process.
  7. Select Save changes.
  8. Review the details, check the certification box, and select Accept.

These changes take approximately 24 hours to take effect.

How to identify a child designation

  1. Log in to your T-Mobile.com account or the T-Mobile app.
  2. Select Profile.
  3. Select Family Controls.
  4. Select Let’s get started.
  5. Go to the line on the account and select Edit. The line is set to either an Adult or Kids’ line.

A line designated as Kid’s will still be able to view previously set marketing preferences selections, but they will not be able to edit them since a Kid’s designation overrides these preferences.
