Looks like someone just got an upgrade! So you ordered your new device and are trading in your old phone, what’s next?
Enrollment and device condition
Trust, it’s the #1 key to a healthy relationship and the foundation of a successful promotion enrollment. You’re automatically enrolled into your promotion once you completed your order and stated that you’d be trading in your device. We know life happens, so you have 30 days from the time you receive your new device to send back your old one. In addition to sending your old device back, you must maintain any promo requirements, including new line activations or rate plan, for the duration of promo credits to stay enrolled.
To qualify, your device must be:
- Paid Off (Fully owned)
- In good working condition
- Find My iPhone or Android Anti-Theft must be disabled
Return your trade-in
Don’t let your old phone gather dust in a drawer! Return the old device so you can enjoy your new one!
Come visit us at your local T-Mobile Store to avoid printing return labels, standing in long lines for snail mail, and immediately get the value of your device and your monthly credits applied to your next bill.
Don’t want to head to a store? No problem! You can print a label to ship your device back.
Understanding promo credits
Okay, now it’s time to get to the good stuff.
The promo credits you see on your bill account for the trade-in value of your old phone. Depending on timing, they can take up to two billing cycles to appear. If your first bill is missing the credit, you’ll see two credits on the second bill.
How we calculate monthly promo credits
We immediately apply your trade-in portion of the promotion to the purchase, then divide the remaining promotional credit by the number of months on your payment plan. It’s that easy!
For an example, let’s say you have $800 off your device with trade-in, your trade-in value is $400, and you have a 24-month payment plan. We apply the trade-in value immediately ($800-$400), leaving an additional $400 of promotional credits. Split the promotion credits across the number of payments ($400 ÷ 24), and it’s $16.66 per month.
Here are some additional examples for a 24-month payment plan:
Promo Value | Trade-in Quote | Remaining Promo | Monthly Credit |
---|---|---|---|
$800 | $400 | $400 | $16.66 |
$800 | $500 | $300 | $12.50 |
$600 | $200 | $400 | $16.66 |
