T-Mobile Wi-Fi Mesh Access Point

Connecting a T-Mobile Wi-Fi Mesh Access Point to your existing network expands Wi-Fi coverage and gives you more powerful performance in more places throughout your home.

Getting Started

Download the T-Life app

  • Set up your T-Mobile ID to manage all settings for your gateway on the T-Life app.
  • Business Internet customers should not sign in with a T-Mobile ID.

Set up your gateway

The easiest way to set up your T-Mobile 5G Gateway (G4AR or G4SE) is by downloading our T-Life app. Set up the gateway before the Mesh Access Point.

  1. From the T-Life Home screen, select Locate > Things > Manage.
  2. Select I need to set up my gateway and follow the prompts.

Set up a Mesh Access Point

You can set up your Mesh Access Point with the T-Life app or with an ethernet cable.

Set up with the T-Life app

  1. Open the T-Life app.
  2. From the T-Life Home screen, select Locate > Things > Manage.
  3. Select the My Wi-Fi tab.
  4. Select Add new access point and follow the prompts.
  • Use these steps to manually set up your Mesh Access Point with an ethernet cable.

    1. Plug in the power adapter and connect it to the Mesh Access Point. Your Mesh Access Point should be close to the gateway.
    2. After the access point is connected to a power source, you should see the LED color change from solid white to blinking white. This takes a few minutes.
    3. Connect the Mesh Access Point to your gateway using the provided ethernet cable.
    4. Wait for the LED on your Mesh Access Point to change from flashing green to solid green. This takes a few minutes.
    5. Your pairing is now complete.
    6. You can now remove the ethernet cable from the gateway and the access point.
    7. Follow directions below for Mesh Access Point placement.
    1. Place the Mesh Access Point where you have the least Wi-Fi coverage or where you use the Internet the most, in an area that’s away from the gateway and near a power outlet.
    2. Make sure it is in an open space and:
      • Away from devices that may cause interference.
      • Not behind TVs and monitors.
      • Not behind walls or obstructions.
      • Not behind heavy-duty appliances or electronics such as microwave ovens and baby monitors.
      • Not behind metal fixtures, enclosures, cabinets, reinforced concrete, or pipes.
    3. Once the Mesh Access Point is connected to the power source at this location, the LED should change from solid white to blinking green and finally solid green. This will take a few minutes.
    4. If your Mesh Access Point shows a yellow or red light after you plug in, unplug it, and move it closer to the gateway.
    5. You can also use the T-Life app for optimal Mesh Access Point placement. From the Home screen > select Home Internet tile > My Wi-Fi > select the Mesh Access Point Troubleshoot Access Point.
    1. Connect your wireless devices to your network using the Wi-Fi SSID (Wi-Fi name) and Wi-Fi Key (Wi-Fi password) of your gateway. Refer to the Gateway & Network Set Up page for more details.
    2. Use the T-Life app to check signal strength.

Troubleshooting

    • Verify your gateway and access point are both powered on.
    • Try placing the gateway and Access Point in a different location.
    • Try factory reset.
    • The LED displays solid red to indicate there is no network signal, which could mean your Wi-Fi network is down due to several reasons.
    • Be sure your gateway is turned on and working properly or try placing the Mesh Access Point closer to the gateway.
    • If the connection does not improve, contact T-Mobile Internet Customer Service.
    • If the Mesh Access Point does not start, verify the provided power adapter is connected to a working outlet and plugged into the power USB-C port on the Mesh Access Point.
    • If the Mesh Access Point is connected to an outlet and power still does not start, contact T-Mobile Internet Customer Service.
    • If you feel your overall internet experience is poor, try repositioning the Mesh Access Point.
    • You can also use the T-Life app to help diagnose the issue.
