Can I Opt Out of the new Starlink Program?
They have competitors. Just like TMobile has competitors that are not in bed with Musk.
As far as satellite service alternatives go, AT&T, and apparently Verizon, have announced partnership with AST SpaceMobile. The service should offer more than just texting, even the ability to have video calls. However, there is no price or rollout date that I know of with either AT&T or Verizon.
Another alternative would be something like the Garmin InReach which starts at around $15/month but requires a separate device costing a few hundred dollars.
Personally I'm not going to boycott T-Mobile. I don't have a satellite compatible phone, as mine is too old, and I don't have the GO5G plan either. I am interested in satellite texting for emergencies, but all this politics and the world melting down and this early period of testing satellite on smartphones I guess means I'll wait and see how things turn out. I have no idea who the CEO of AST SpaceMobile is or how he or she compares to Elon Musk.
