As the executive vice president and chief technology officer at T-Mobile, John Saw leads the Un-carrier's network expansion and drives technological innovations, paving the way for extraordinary digital-first customer experiences.

John and his team of technologists consistently push the boundaries of wireless innovation. He leads a diverse team that is responsible for end-to-end network growth and evolution, overseeing network architecture, product engineering, and the company’s technology labs — including T-Mobile’s state-of-the-art innovation center, the Tech Experience 5G Hub.

Under John’s leadership, his team is driving innovation, delivering groundbreaking solutions that shape the future of mobile networks and enhance real-world customer experiences. As the founder of the AI-RAN Innovation Center, a partnership with Ericsson, Nokia, and Nvidia, John is setting new standards for RAN intelligence and performance. His team showcases the power of T-Mobile’s 5G Standalone network through activations at marquee events like the Las Vegas Grand Prix, PGA Tour, and Major League Baseball. Additionally, John chairs the Architecture Review Board, ensuring compliance with enterprise architecture standards, eliminating silos and maximizing long-term value.

Before joining Team Magenta in 2020, John made significant contributions as Sprint’s chief technology officer, serving in various leadership positions where he revolutionized network performance and spearheaded the company’s successful 5G rollout.

John played a pivotal role in transforming the 2.5 GHz band into one of the most valuable spectrum assets in wireless. His leadership was instrumental in establishing one of the largest technology ecosystems in the world. He has also held senior leadership roles developing and deploying wireless technologies at AT&T, Bell Northern Research, Clearwire, Netro Corp., and Nortel.

John holds Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate degrees in electrical engineering from McMaster University, Canada and has six patents in wireless technologies. In 2017, the FCC chairman appointed him to the broadband deployment advisory committee. He is an elected Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, an esteemed organization dedicated to advancing the engineering profession and is on the advisory board for the University of Washington’s college of engineering. Additionally, John serves on the board of directors for Spectrum Effect, a pioneering company specializing in RF spectrum analytics.
