Trade in device switch

I switched to T-Mobile from Verizon about 30 days ago, taking advantage of a trade-in promotion offering $999.99 ("iPhone Pro on us") for my iPhone 12. I upgraded to an iPhone 16 Pro Max, sent in my iPhone 12 as part of the promotion, and just received notice that T-Mobile credited my account with only $585 for "fair market value."

The reason? T-Mobile claims they received an iPhone 16 Pro Max instead of my iPhone 12, which obviously isn’t true - I just bought the 16 Pro Max!

Customer service insists that the iPhone 16 Pro Max they say they received doesn’t qualify for the promotion, so I won’t receive the remaining $415 of the trade-in deal. All of my paperwork clearly states that my trade-in was an iPhone 12 - the only phone I’ve had for the past four years.

After years of hearing great things about T-Mobile, this situation feels like a bait-and-switch. Has anyone else experienced something like this, or am I just really unlucky?

  • I have similar experience. Commercial add is still running claiming free phone upgrade on us yet it’s a scam. I’m dropping these clowns.

Any issues with billing and or promotions need to be addressed with Customer Care by calling 611 from your T-Mobile line or by sending a DM to T-Mobile on either Facebook or Twitter/X.

I did that and they are opening a case with a senior manager to review this. I must say they were pretty rude like I was trying to scam them or something. Like I sent in a new $1300 phone for a trade in, it makes zero sense at all.

The reason for my post was to see if anyone else has had the same issue with T Mobile claiming they sent in a different phone than what was actually sent in. Not sure why you marked this as a solution....
