Will a Samsung S5 model G900T3 work on T-Mobile in 2022?
I’ve been thinking about switching from ATT and have an unlocked S5 G900T3 that I like.
Will it still work on T-Mobile in 2022 since 3G is gone?
I borrowed a buddies sim card to verify it still works but it won’t make calls.
VoLTE is turned on, and its showing 4G LTE on the top of the screen but it won’t make calls.
I’m getting conflicting info from what I read and from the local store. The store says an S5 is too old, can’t be used, the website says it works with an asterisk, and I see videos online showing the S5 working.
Which is it?
I really want to use an S5, I refuse to buy another phone with a built in battery.

I showed it to a guy at another T-Mobile store, he looked at the phone, brought up the IMEI number, typed it in and said the phone is not compatible with T-Mobile???
He said it does not have VoLTE????
But it shows VoLTE <ON> under Call Settings in the keypad or dialing screen?
If it didn’t have VoLTE, then why on earth would there be a switch for it?

I tried adding an APN code but it won’t remember it?
I hit save, and its all gone, but the APN settings are the same on a buddies phone which does work?
Under APN settings, only T-Mobile appears but all but a couple specs are filled in and it won’t let me change anything.
Its currently working though on AT&T?
I can make calls just fine but AT&T still has 3G active.
With the T-Mobile sim card, the phone will access the web, get texts, delete texts, sent texts, but will not make calls. The indicator up top says 4G LTE. I’m being told it should also say VoLTE for it to make calls?

you double checked the APN settings?

I already own the S5 and I have no intention of buying a new phone. I just figured that since the G900T3 was originally a T-Mobile phone I’d give them a shot.
I keep seeing posts on other forums about how the S5 is capable of VoLTE, but when I go to T-Mobile’s web site it gives me conflicting info.
T-Mobile states that the S5 is not capable of HD Voice but it is capable of VoLTE???
All other brands list both of those as being the same thing, or at least one is part of the other.
The original box for the phone and its paperwork say its got VoLTE, and 4G LTE. Yet when I tried a buddies T-mobile sim card in it it wouldn’t make a call on T-Mobile even VoLTE turned on.
Yet it works fine on AT&T. AT&T offered me a new phone for a big discount but after two really bad phones from Apple, and both an S7 and S10 Samsung needing batteries after only two years, I’ll pass on anything with a built in battery. I refuse to buy anything that has a planned expiration date for the amount they want for these phones.
I don’t see how security is a factor here, what security would I need, I use the phone for anything sensitive, no banking, no buying, just text and talk and the occasional emailing of a picture.
If I want to browse the web I have a computer at home. I do my banking at the bank in person, and I anything I buy is generally in person of over the phone with a CC. Not through a cell phone.
If I can’t switch the phone over to T-Mobile with no other expenses, I'll just stay with AT&T, I’m grandfathered into a 9 year old plan, T-Mobile is cheaper but only by $5/mo. I do not want to make the swap and find out the phone won't work because once I port my number, I lose the old AT&T price forever.

I think it might be time to embrace phones without a removable battery. This phone will not have the security updates you need to not be vulnerable. I don't understand people like you
