Does my iphone work in Australia? Do i have to do anything to get it to work? do I turn on roaming?
The roaming toggle needs to be on for your data to work. It should not affect voice or SMS. What plan are you on? Some plans (Essentials?) only have text roaming unless you buy a Data Pass.
