Problems with streaming Hulu Live TV

I have used T-Mobile for 3 years. As I live in a rural area, my only other options are local wireless (very slow) and satellite (slow and expensive). I have used Hulu Live TV for 9 months with no problems. Suddenly this week, Hulu has stopped working due to IP address changes with T-Mobile. I have apparently moved to San Francisco, San Diego, Las Vegas, and Phoenix in the last few days. I have contacted Hulu to reset my IP address several times, but I am getting tired of doing this. Why is this a problem after 9 months? Why can’t T-Mobile give me a static IP address?

  • Not to be dismissive of your request (which, I think, is possible if you upgrade to a business account), but the problem is more on the Hulu side, since some services like YouTubeTV allow users to identify a physical location for their service independent of the IP connection point.

For what, going on 5 years now, Hulu says that the problem lies with everyone other than them...I just tried to get Hulu + Live TV and it's the same issue: they restrict content by location and do so by tying physical presence to an IP address, which is problematic at best. Gave up after an afternoon of troubleshooting with a very willing Hulu rep who started the conversation by saying that he's seen this problem many times before. Contrast this with YouTube TV, which "just works". Contrast this even with ordinary Hulu, which also "just works".  I don't believe the problem is with anything other than Hulu + Live TV and I don't believe that they care to fix it.

Contact Hulu support. They have an awesome chat support. Find out your IP address and provide to them. They will add it manually and fix the problem

  • @Rogracer2000 Thanks again. I realize that I was mistaken in my 2nd post. Right now, I’m good. I reset my T-Mobile gateway a couple of times until I got the correct location (48 hours and counting). If I have too many problems, I will switch to YouTubeTV.

@Rogracer2000 @copz1998 , thanks for your comments and advice. The thing that really upset me was that I did not have a problem for 9 months. I’ve restarted my gateway several time this week and my IP keeps switching to a new city. I will look at a Hulu business account as well as switching to YouTube.

Just a note...it is T Mobile that offers the business account (not Hulu) that will give you a static IP (at extra cost).  And it’s YouTubeTV that allows you to set a location (not YouTube, which I don’t think cares about location).

@David-in-AZ, I agree with @Rogracer2000. If your other services work fine (email, Google searches, etc.), then Hulu is the issue. As for a static IP, you will need to upgrade (at a modest cost) to a business account.

As for locations, I live near Sacramento, but my location is in SF or Oakland. I suspect the location comes from the TM location where your access originates. Personally, I don’t care where my location service shows me.

Also, restart your TM gateway every 2-3 weeks to re-establish a clean connection and clear any cache on the device.
