The router, the network, the whole ball of wax. It’s like cellular internet on steroids. There’s no way to get into a Home Internet connection from outside. Take my AT&T Uverse for example, I have a real, though dynamic, IPv4 address. If I open a pinhole in my personal firewall, I can run a VPN server (which I do). I could run almost any type of server (e.g. Web, VoIP, IMAP, game, etc) if I wanted to. No one’s figured out how to do that with Home Internet. It’s sort of crippled. It can be great if all you want to do is run as a client but that’s only half of what an Internet connection is for.
A SIP client is a difficult enough proposition in the face of a single NAT and a firewall. Multiple NATs, firewall. I have no idea how one would make a server work.
